Corberán: “I’m very happy with the team’s character and personality”
The Valencia CF coach looks back at the win over RCD Espanyol
Valencia CF coach Carlos Corberán analysed the 3-2 victory against RCD Espanyol in his post-match press conference.
An important victory
I don't know what it might end up being, but what it was is a very important victory for our fans. We were really eager to get the three points for the fans, to make Mestalla happy, because that's what we all want -the players, the staff, everyone-, so we're happy to have achieved it.
The team’s performance
For our reading of the game, more than singling out individuals, I think the team, in the time of the most difficulty in the season, under the most pressure, showed a character and personality that makes me incredibly proud of the group.
And the situation with the centre-backs is similar; they hadn't been able to train normally all week. Copete had to get two injections to be able to play in today's game. In the very first move of the game, he already felt some back pain. I was unsure whether he would be able to continue.
The same goes for Cömert; he was only able to train for two days because he had a problem with his hip or hamstring. I like seeing that character in the players because that's the way forward in difficult, problematic, or uncertain situations. They are taking a very important step forward for everyone.
Signings
I only talk about players who are part of the Valencia CF squad. That's when I like to talk about them.
Until that happens, I don't like to comment on anybody.
Suffering for the win
I value the victory a lot. It deserves a great deal of credit. If you want to find fault with things, there are always aspects to improve. But it was very important to get the win today. It was very difficult. We haven't won at Mestalla in a while. The team are incredibly eager to give the fans something to cheer about. Often, when I say incredibly eager, I mean that it prevents us from playing the football the team are capable of.
But I want to highlight the courage, the personality, the character of the team. Every time we took the lead and they managed to equalise, the team didn't crumble. Quite the opposite. They kept pushing and they kept going.
I'm incredibly proud when I see that, because those are aspects that are crucial right now to getting points.
